Airborne Assault Museum - Operation Market Garden

We were commissioned by the Airborne Assault Museum to create a powerful five-minute film marking the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, one of the most ambitious and dramatic airborne operations of the Second World War. This film vividly captures the heroic efforts of the 1st Airborne Division during their pivotal fight for Arnhem, bringing their courage and sacrifice to life for modern audiences.

The film immerses viewers in the intense battle for the Rhine bridge, focusing on Lieutenant Colonel John Frost’s 2nd Parachute Battalion’s remarkable stand at Arnhem Bridge against overwhelming odds. It also broadens the scope to highlight the division’s wider objectives and the challenges they faced, from miscommunications to the devastating counterattacks by German forces. Through a carefully crafted narrative, we convey the ambition of Operation Market Garden and the bitter reality of its outcome.

To make the story engaging and accessible, we combined modern graphics and animation with archival footage, guiding viewers through the key moments of the battle. Our expertise in simplifying complex military manoeuvres allowed us to clearly explain the division’s actions and the strategic importance of Arnhem within the broader operation. The result is a compelling narrative that appeals to both military enthusiasts and general audiences.

A key element of the film’s impact lies in its personal storytelling. Veteran testimonies were interwoven into the narrative, offering first-hand accounts of the challenges faced by the paratroopers. This approach not only honours the bravery of those who fought but also creates an emotional connection for viewers, helping them to grasp the human cost of the battle.

In addition to the main film, we produced shorter social media clips to commemorate the anniversary and amplify the story’s reach. These clips were designed to engage online audiences, sparking interest in the museum’s exhibitions and the legacy of the 1st Airborne Division. By extending the film’s presence beyond the museum walls, we ensured the story of Operation Market Garden reached as wide an audience as possible.

The project demonstrates how historical storytelling can inspire and educate, connecting visitors with one of the most extraordinary chapters of the Second World War. This film now serves as a central feature of the museum’s exhibitions, cementing the Airborne Assault Museum’s role as a custodian of the division’s legacy.
